Great value with annual plan

I was looking to get into coding without spending a fortune and decided to go for the Pro Membership with an annual plan. I managed to catch a 50% off deal which made it super affordable for a whole year of access. I've been working through the Data Science Path and it feels like a really solid investment for the price I paid. Definitely worth it if you can snag a good discount like I did.

Loved the Python course!

I just finished the Python Courses and it was so much fun! The interactive lessons were amazing, and I really felt like I was learning by doing. I'm definitely going to get the Pro Membership to try out more paths. Recommend to anyone starting out!

Decent learning, a few small issues

I signed up for the Full-Stack Engineer Path a couple of months back. The content quality was really solid, especially the React sections, which I found super helpful for my projects. The exercises were well-structured and provided good practice. However, sometimes the code checker was a bit too strict, marking correct answers as wrong for minor formatting differences, which was a little frustrating. The community forums were also a bit slow to respond to my questions at times. Overall, a good platform for structured learning, but there's room for improvement in the automated feedback and community support.

Good for learning basics

I tried out the JavaScript Courses a few weeks ago. It was pretty easy to follow along, especially for someone like me who's just dabbling in coding. The interface was clean and didn't crash or anything, which was nice. I might try another course later on if I have time.

I'm thinking about getting Pro but saw some mention of student discounts. How do you even get that? Do they need a student ID or something?

G Gwen T. 1 month ago
They use a service called SheerID to verify you're a student. You usually need to provide some university info or a student ID to get it. It's a pretty sweet deal if you qualify.

Yep, it's verified through a third party. Just look for the student discount link on their site, it'll walk you through it.

Are there ever any good discounts for existing Pro users? Or is it always just for new sign-ups?

R Rosa 1 month ago
They sometimes send out renewal discounts, especially if your plan is about to expire. Keep an eye on your email around that time. Not as common as new user deals though.

I got a small discount when my annual plan was up for renewal last year. It wasn't as huge as the Black Friday deals, but better than nothing!

I'm torn between Codecademy and FreeCodeCamp. Anyone used both extensively and can say which one is better for learning web dev from scratch?

P Paula 1 month ago
FreeCodeCamp is completely free and has a great community, but Codecademy's interactive lessons are really good for getting started quickly. Codecademy might be more structured, FCC is a bit more 'do it yourself'.

I started with Codecademy for the basics, then moved to FreeCodeCamp for more project-based stuff. Codecademy's instant feedback is awesome for beginners. FCC is solid once you have a foundation.

My coupon code isn't working for the annual plan. Is there a trick to it, or are some codes just really specific about what they apply to?

T Troy 2 months ago
Sometimes codes are only for specific plans or new users. Also check if there's an expiration date. I had one not work because it was for monthly subs only.

M Mark S. 2 months ago
Yeah, had that happen. Make sure it's for an annual Pro plan, and that you're not trying to stack it with another deal. They usually only allow one discount.

Does Codecademy have a mobile app? Trying to figure out if I can squeeze in some coding practice during my commute.

M Mike Y. 1 month ago
Yep, there's an app for both iOS and Android. It's pretty decent for reviewing concepts and doing some quick exercises, but I still prefer the desktop for actual coding.

Yeah, I use the mobile app sometimes. It's not the full experience, but good for keeping up with quizzes or reading through lessons when you're on the go.

Quick question for anyone who's done it: how easy is it to cancel the Pro subscription if I decide it's not for me? No hassle, or do they make you jump through hoops?

J Jared Foster 2 months ago
Super easy. Just a few clicks in your account settings. I cancelled once when I was between jobs, no issues at all.

P Phil 2 months ago
Can confirm, pretty straightforward. They let you cancel anytime, so no long-term commitment if you're just testing the waters.

What's the difference between Codecademy Plus and Pro? Seems like they offer similar things.

S Sarah 2 months ago
Pro is the main subscription now, it used to be called Plus a while back. They might still have some old branding floating around. If you're signing up fresh, you'll likely just see 'Pro' for everything.
3
P Paula 2 months ago
Yeah, I think Plus was an older tier or something similar. For all intents and purposes, if you're looking for the full learning experience with all paths and courses, you're looking for 'Pro'.

Is the Data Science path on Codecademy any good? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the Pro membership cost for that specific area.

M Mark 2 months ago
I'm actually doing the Data Science path right now! It covers Python, SQL, and some stats pretty well. Good starting point, but you'll probably want to supplement with other resources for deeper dives later.

P Paula 2 months ago
It's a solid introduction. I found it helpful for building a foundation. If you're completely new to data science, it's a good structured way to learn the ropes.
